  This three hour mini workshop will consist of two 50 minute class on the floor specifically designed for clients who have suffered from low back pain or are at risk of low back pain. Following the two classes there will be a 50 minute discussion that will review the precautions and contraindicated exercises for the low back population.

Participants will review modifications and corrections for a successful Mat class designed specifically for low back care.

Mission of the class:
Provide a positive movement experience without pain that exceeds expectations. If at anytime you experience discomfort, let me know, and I will modify the exercises so that you have a positive movement experience without pain.

  This workshop will consist of scientific and practical applications of breath as it pertains to movement efficiency within the Pilates Environment.
Emphasis will be placed on how breath facilitates movement and how movement facilitates breath.

Comparison will be performed between varying styles of breathing within the Pilates community and what is facilitated with each style of breathing. Discussion will follow pertaining to the question “Is there a right way to breath?”\

Following this lecture and lab, participants will:
1. Show increased awareness of the effects of breath as it pertains to Pilates movement.
2. Realize how diversified breathing philosophies can influence movement differently.
3. Explore how the biomechanics of the musculoskeletal system influence breathing
and how the musculoskeletal system is influenced by breathing.
4. Discuss energetic theories associated with breathing styles

  This two hour workshop with Dr. Anderson will draw from current research.

Anderson will present conflicting view points on “core control” and spine articulation. Dr. Anderson will dispel many concerns regarding what is normal and not normal pertaining to healthy spine movement and will show how to modify movement when spine pathology is present.

Participants will engage in an open forum and discussion with Dr. Anderson pertaining to the great advantages the Pilates Method and environment lend to preventing spine injury and in many cases healing spine pathology.
